It is performed using a surgical blade that is gently swept across the skin, sloughing off dead skin cells and fine hair. It can address a variety of cosmetic concerns, ranging from dry skin to fine facial hair to hyperpigmentation and wrinkles.
Dermaplane treatments have become extremely popular, as the treatment produces impressive results and does not pose the risks associated with dermabrasion. The process is a simple, safe way to exfoliate the facial skin, and remove unsightly peach fuzz. The skin is carefully abraded with a special scalpel, with a light, feathering, stroking motion.
This treatment is painless, and triggers natural cell regeneration. The new skin revealed by the treatment is better able to absorb the nutrients in professional anti-aging and maintenance products. For people who have rough, dry skin, mature skin, or mild acne scarring will see visible improvements after dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning is a wonderful anti-aging, restorative treatment for everyone, but it is especially beneficial for pregnant or nursing patients who need to restore a dull, dry complexion. The treatment offers deep exfoliation without the peeling agents that could enter the bloodstream and be transferred to the baby.
The treatment can be performed in a short appointment, with most patients having their entire face treated in just 30 to 45 minutes. As this process only removes the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis), there is typically no downtime or side effects. Although many people are concerned that their hair will grow back darker and thicker, this is not true. Since the hair being removed is vellus hair, it doesn’t become thicker, darker, or more abundant after dermaplaning.
Your skin is pulled taut while a sterile surgical blade is very gently scraped across the surface. This blade removes dead skin, and vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the face. This leaves the skin ultra-smooth and glowing with health.
No! It is impossible to change the structure of your hair follicle by manipulating the hair only on the surface. Your hair will gradually return as it was prior to the Dermaplaning treatment.
Our licensed medical aesthetician will analyze your skin prior to treatment and determine if you are a good candidate. Many people who have fine, sensitive skin find microdermabrasion too extreme, but easily tolerate dermaplaning.
Yes, and we often recommend a combination of treatments for facial rejuvenation.
Dermaplaning can be performed every 4 weeks.
You must discontinue any exfoliating products including alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) serums, scrubs, retinol night creams and topical prescriptions (Triluma, Retin-A, Tretinoin etc.) for at least five days prior to and five days after your treatment. It is very important to apply sunscreen daily after this treatment, as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s rays and must be protected.
There is no downtime after treatment. You may experience slight redness for a few hours, but your skin quickly recovers, leaving a glowing, bright complexion, free from fine hairs and dead skin cells. We call this a “lunchtime treatment,” as often people return back to work as after treatment.
Yes this treatment can be performed safely on pregnant or lactating women.
