Dr. Shitabata, MD / Dermapathologist is the most recent addition to Advanced Skincare. Dr. Shitabata is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and dermatopathology. He is the President and Medical Director of the Dermatopathology Institute and is also the Director of Dermatopathology for the Dermatology Residency Program at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Shitabata attended the University of Colorado Health Sciences where he completed his internship. He completed his residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in 1992 in anatomic and clinical pathology. In 1993, he completed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Harbor-UCLA, and the following year finished a fellowship at the Barnes Hospital of Washington University School of Medicine in dermatopathology.
He was a member of the Leadership Committee for the College of American Pathologists and a consultant for the dermatopathology for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from 2001 – 2003. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Asian American Physicians Association between 1998 – 2004. His expertise in dermatology and pathology lead him to become a dermapathology reviewer for Practical Reviews in Dermatology and a dermatopathology editor for Logical Images.
Dr. Shitabata has practiced dermatopathology since 1994. His dedication and passion towards dermatology has earned him several awards including America’s Best Physician in 2003.The Wall Street Journal recognized him for his renowned website, The Doctors Doctor, an informative website about laboratory reports. He’s written several published articles, reviews and given presentations across the United States and Canada.
