Rhinoplasty can make a nose larger or smaller and can adjust the shape of the bridge, tip, or nostrils. The procedure can also correct crookedness, injuries, and breathing abnormalities that arise due to problems with the internal structures of the nose. The results of rhinoplasty can increase confidence and improve the balance and proportions of the face.
During the rhinoplasty procedure, which is performed under anesthesia, incisions are made along the rims of the nostrils. By placing the incisions inconspicuously, there should be virtually no visible scarring. If the nose is being made smaller, the cartilage is carefully fractured and reset. Depending on the individual, the procedure takes 1-2 hours to complete.
Some swelling and bruising will most likely occur but should subside around the third day and should be largely gone within two weeks. A full recovery generally takes up to a month.
