Scelerotherapy is a procedure that can be
effectively used to treat spider veins, often seen as red
or blue blood vessel lines across the legs. This condition
is most often found on the thighs or lower legs of women.
Scelerotherapy can also treat varicose veins, which are larger,
bluish veins that appear raised and often cause pain and discomfort.
Sclerotherapy is a safe walk-in, walk-out outpatient procedure
requiring no recovery time or anesthesia. The injected solution
often acts as a trigger to treat the surrounding vein ‘web’ and results in the treatment of an entire area. A typical
treatment may last for 15-30 minutes and consist of multiple
injections. This is a safe, non-invasive treatment, which
eliminates the need for a surgical procedure.

After the treatment, patients might need to wear a compression
stocking to help keep pressure on the veins. This will also
reduce bruising and help keep the treated veins closed. Bruises
around the treated areas usually disappear after the first
week. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the
procedure but rigorous activities should be avoided for the
first 24 hours.
