Dr. Edward Young
Board Certified Dermatologist and Dermatologic Surgeon
Dr. Edward Young grew up in Tarzana, California, in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. He was Valedictorian at Taft High School in nearby Woodland Hills. He attended UCLA from 1972-1976, receiving his bachelor’s degree in biology summa cum laude with highest departmental research honors. He enjoyed playing tenor saxophone in the UCLA Bruin Marching Band in the 1976 Rose Bowl.
Ed moved south to San Diego for medical school, general surgery internship, and dermatology residency, all at UC San Diego in La Jolla. He was selected as Dermatology Chief Resident for his entire third year. Then he moved north to UC Irvine where he completed a fellowship in dermatopathology (microscopic analysis of skin biopsies) under the direction of renowned Dr. Ronald J. Barr. Dr Young received the Best Teaching Award presented by the medical students and faculty.
Dr. Young returned to Tarzana to join the prestigious large dermatology group his family had always patronized. In 1996 his 3 senior partners retired, leaving the entire practice for Dr Young to manage until 2014. During this time, he co-authored 3 textbooks on geriatric dermatology.
In 2015 Dr Young was selected to be the Chief of Dermatology at the Long Beach Veterans’ Administration Hospital, where he had worked 30 years previously as a dermatopathology fellow. Dr Young enjoys treating our beloved veterans and teaching the 15 young dermatologists-in-training who comprise the UC Irvine Dermatology Residency program. He is extremely proud to have been a awarded the “Best Customer Service” certificate and a $1,000honorarium, presented to the physician who received the most patient compliments during the past year.
Dr Young is eager and excited to join the beautiful and very well-managed Advanced Skincare MedCenter in lovely Newport Beach. He looks forward to bringing 30+ years of experience to help patients of all ages enjoy beautiful and healthy skin.
